Cyber Resilience: Are you prepared for an attack on your company?

Recent studies show that as many as half of the UK's businesses have been targeted by cyber criminals in the past year - cyber-attacks risk companies’ finances, confidence and reputation, with victims reporting not only monetary losses but costs from disruption to their business and productivity. While firms of all sizes – from major corporations to one-man operations – fall prey to attacks, evidence shows that large companies are more likely to experience them.

The speed and effectiveness of recovering from a cyber attack is directly dependent upon the preparedness of that business before the event, and how well they execute their recovery plan.

Businesses should also be mindful of the extension to data protection regulation coming into force next year, which will increase their responsibilities and requirements to protect personal data. Firms that don’t adopt the appropriate protections leave themselves open to tough penalties - The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be enforced from 28 May 2018. GDPR is an EU regulation applicable in the UK without the need for domestic UK legislation (and so will apply between May 2018 and any departure from the EU).

As part of Business Continuity Awareness Week, East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) have partnered with LLR Prepared (Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland’s Local Resilience Forum) and Loughborough University to host a free briefing session to guide you through the process of preparing your business for cyber threats.
