For the most up to date guidance on combatting the recent ransomware attack visit http://bit.ly/2pDrPDZ

The Microsoft technical description of the malware used in the attack can be found at http://bit.ly/2qDg2Wx

To help reduce the risk of falling victim to a similar attack in future, members are urged to follow this guidance:

  • Understand the 'technical estate' that you are responsible for - not just computers but things like smartphones, printers, network switches as well

  • Install the latest updates on all software on all systems within your network (Microsoft has released a patch relevant to the recent malware for legacy Windows XP systems http://bit.ly/2raS5BZ)

  • Use Anti-Virus software at all times and ensure that it is also updated

  • Regularly backup your system or critical data to a storage device that is not within the same network. Consider cloud storage options where suitable.
  • If you believe you have been a victim of a ransomware attack, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk

Further comprehensive guidance on securing your business can be found on the Government’s Cyber Aware website at https://www.cyberaware.gov.uk
