Food and Drink Firms Given Chance to Grab a Slice of the Polish Market

Krakow Market, Poland (CC BY 2.0 Aitor Escauriaza)A market visit aimed at giving East Midlands-based exporters and importers an opportunity to connect with new business partners in Poland is taking place in September.

To give firms a better understanding of the Polish market, Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and East Midlands Chamber*, in partnership with Santander Corporate Bank, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, are inviting local firms to be part of the company mission.

It takes place 26–29 September and will target companies involved in the food and drink, agriculture and packaging sectors.

Business is thriving in Poland. As the only national economy in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) regions to avoid a downturn during the global recession of 2009¹, it is also reliable. In 2015, Poland saw its largest growth since 2011, with its economy growing by 3.6 per cent².

In 2015, East Midlands companies exported goods with a value of £209m to Poland, while 2015 imports totalled £500m, showing that bilateral trade is flourishing. Excellent opportunities exist for companies looking to sell to this huge domestic market of over 38 million potential customers – the largest in the CEE region – with food and drink in real demand³.

Delegates will visit the 2016 Polagra Food Fair, a globally-renowned international trade fair attended by shop managers, food distributors, importers and retailers keen to meet potential clients and add quality foreign produce to their portfolios.

The mission will also incorporate a visit to Krakow, with B2B meetings and company visits being organised by EEN.

Jan Immel, the Chamber’s International Trade Contracts and Networks Manager, said: “Poland’s consistently strong performance in the face of global economic challenges makes it an attractive market for East Midlands exporters.

“With this in mind, we are delighted to provide local businesses with these exciting opportunities to find out more and assist them in finding international partners.”

Companies wanting more information, or to book a place on the company mission should call the Enterprise Europe Network on 0115 9575741 or email ennoecdlc.keif@m-n.ou.
