The Chamber’s Construction and Property is designed for those businesses involved in the construction and property sector to come together to discuss a range of sector specific topics which include areas such as the latest technological developments, legal updates, the economic environment, sustainable construction and employability and skills. The forum also affords delegates the opportunity to network with like-minded businesses and feedback areas of opportunity and concern.

This forum is kindly hosted by Manthorpe Building Products who have over 30 years experience in the plastics industry, Manthorpe manufacture virtually all their products in-house and in recent years have invested extensively in technology and cutting edge machinery with modern manufacturing processes for injection mould, extruding and vacuum forming to a high standard.

  • Current research on textile reinforced mortars and textile reinforced concrete - Dr Bahman Ghiassi, Civil Engineering department, University of Nottingham 

This work explores developing cheap, durable, sustainable and high performance materials for the construction of new (or repair of existing) concrete and masonry structures.


  • Acquisitions and disposals of properties - Mark Taylor* FCCA CTA, Duncan & Toplis

In this high level 20-minute session, Mark will explore the acquisition and disposal of commercial property. This can be one of the largest investments a company makes in its lifetime, but many companies don’t realise that they are able to claim tax reliefs on the acquisition of these properties. Mark will talk delegates through:

  • Capital Allowances and the application of Tax Relief
  • Structuring and how best to structure property ownership
  • VAT: Avoiding the pitfalls

*Mark has a particular expertise in corporate and property taxes. He is Head of Property and Construction at Duncan & Toplis and leads the Tax Advisory service line, chairs the Duncan & Toplis Corporate and Business Tax and Property Tax groups, and is key representative on international tax matters, working closely with Kreston to deliver advice to clients around the globe.

Mark holds an advisory role and leads tax planning projects and transactions including corporate restructuring and business sales and acquisitions for privately owned business. He is a Tax Director and a member of the Duncan & Toplis Management Board.
