Delivering against the Chamber goal to “Support the development of current and future workforce in the East Midlands” the 2021 Employability and Skills Week will explore how the region can address the challenges business continues to face in relation to accessing people with the right skills.

With the economy emerging from the impact of the past 12 months, the East Midlands Chamber 2021 Employability and Skills Week will explore what skills are required to support recovery and growth, to what extent they exist in the region, and how we can work collectively to deliver skills for the economy beyond the recovery.

Through a series of workshops, seminars and a centre piece Summit, the week’s activities will focus on how we create an environment where policy-makers, employers, educators and individuals themselves can work together to ensure we can respond to the seismic shift taking place in local jobs markets across the East Midlands. It will also explore what the evolving policy landscape for skills means for our local communities – including the Skills for the Future White Paper, Apprenticeship and T Level Reforms, the Restart Programme and more.

Sessions delivered throughout the week will explore:

  • how we lessen the impact of the pandemic on the jobs market in the region
  • ensure we deliver the skills that will respond to the climate emergency challenge
  • ensure training provision is responsive to employers needs
  • how to capture the productivity benefits gained over the past year
  • the support require to transition young people into the jobs market

The week includes our Centrepiece Employment and Skills Summit, focused on delivering the future skills requirements for the East Midlands. Key speakers from business, Government and education will discuss the changing needs of the labour market and the implications this has for all those involved in it.
