Monkey Magic Spells Business Success

Two High Peak business partners are hoping to conjure up success with Monkey Magic a new children's indoor adventure playground in New Mills.Marketing and sales executive Jill Simner and photographer Iain Klieve have opened the colourful play space to plug a gap in the local market for children aged up to ten years and their parents and carers.I have two children under the age of five, so have been to lots of similar centres, but realised there was nothing like it in this area, explained Jill, of Chinley. I was keen to try running my own business, so discussed the possibility of opening one with Iain and we decided to have a go.While Jill and Iain, of Chapel-en-le-Frith, tried to track down the right type of premises, Jill contacted Derbyshire Chamber and Business Link and did one of its regular Starting Up in Business courses. It was very useful and gave me a really good grounding, added Jill. I made lots of new contacts, and learned a lot from the other people on the course. Thanks to Derbyshire Chamber and Business Link, Jill and Ian also managed to secure a grant towards the cost of expensive play equipment, and ongoing contact with Glossop-based business adviser Peter Hayes has eased the day-to-day challenges of setting up. Peter has been a great help throughout the process, said Jill. I'm also planning to do more Derbyshire Chamber courses in the future, such as bookkeeping and VAT.Monkey Magic, of Redmoor Mill, Buxton Road, New Mills offers a bespoke adventure play system, including a three metres long Astro Slide, baby area and party room. Adults can relax over a coffee on comfy sofas or access the internet while their children play, and hot and cold food is served all day.
