Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Form Strong Alliance For MIPIM

This year's Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire MIPIM TeamFor the first time ever, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire will be collaborating when they go to MIPIM, the international property event in Cannes.

The two cities and counties will come together in a strategic partnership to highlight the benefits of doing business with the two counties.

In particular, Team Nottingham and Marketing Derby will be highlighting the benefits of D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – as well as the Nottingham Enterprise Zone.

D2N2 Chairman Peter Richardson said: “MIPIM is a great place to meet the firms who can boost their growth by investing in our area. By working together as a partnership we can showcase the complementary strengths of Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire that together, make a compelling opportunity for investment and growth.”

D2N2 board members Peter Gadsby, the property developer, and Councillor Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, will be attending MIPIM to support the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire partnership.

Coun Collins said: “Nottingham and Derby have each had a strong presence at MIPIM in recent years and by combining our efforts this year, we can present more effectively the regional opportunities that exist for inward investment and creating new jobs. The LEP’s support strengthens our profile and is clear evidence of real partnership working”

As part of the Notts-Derbys collaboration, Coun Collins will be taking part in this year’s Cycle to Cannes (C2C) challenge to coincide with Team Nottingham attending MIPIM.

Coun Collins will set off from London on 7 March, joining 80 other riders covering the 1500km over six days and raising money for charity, aiming to cross the finishing line at around 3pm outside the Palais de Festivals, Cannes on 12 March.

Thirteen powerful partner organisations from across the Nottinghamshire property sector will be leading Team Nottingham at MIPIM, which attracts thousands of investors and developers from across the globe.

Alliance Boots is also boosting the Team Nottingham line-up. Mark Chivers, director of the Enterprise Zone at Alliance Boots, will be talking to MIPIM about the benefits of Nottingham and Derby to investors.

The line-up of 13 includes 11 private sector organisations whose combined commitment is £30,000. They are:

  • Alliance Boots
  • UK Regeneration
  • Innes England
  • Gleeds
  • Geldards
  • Morgan Tucker
  • Rizk McCay
  • Cartwright Communications
  • Couch Perry & Wilkes
  • CPMG Architects
  • Miller Birch
  • Invest in Nottingham
  • Nottingham Regeneration Limited

Director of Innes England Tim Garratt, who helps to lead Team Nottingham, said: “This is the strongest and most exciting Team Nottingham we have had since the private sector began representing the city at MIPIM. For the third year running, we have had a number of private firms across Nottingham and the county who are keen to maintain the city’s prominence at MIPIM.
“Over the past few years, Nottingham has succeeded in establishing a recognisable presence there – and it is vital that we keep this momentum going.

“We are delighted to see three new members for 2013 – the international pharmacy-led health and beauty group, Alliance Boots, whose Nottingham site is the home of Boots UK, and UK Regeneration – which is developing a pilot ‘village’ scheme in the city. Also joining the team is Nottingham PR and communications firm Cartwright Communications which has supported Team Nottingham in previous years, helping it raise its profile nationally and internationally.

“That Nottinghamshire is partnering Derby and Derbyshire this year with the LEP and the attendance Peter Richardson at Cannes strengthens our efforts even further and shows a united, regional approach to our efforts.

“The private sector partners involved in this year’s delegation to MIPIM had no difficulty making a business case for being there. We have opportunities to market, requirements to compete for and we wanted to make sure that the Team Nottingham brand was out there and visible at the biggest event on Europe’s property and investment calendar. We are pleased to be taking Invest in Nottingham, which won’t be making a financial contribution – but we felt we needed their expertise and knowledge.”

Mark Chivers, director of the Enterprise Zone at Alliance Boots in Beeston, said: “Alliance Boots recognises the importance of MIPIM in terms of inward investment to the city. The Nottingham Enterprise Zone is high on the city’s agenda and MIPIM will be the ideal environment to talk to investors about its massive potential as a centre for innovation and product development in the health, beauty and wellness sphere.

“The reality is that Nottingham has to compete for future inward investment. We are in competition with locations such as Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield – and it is vital that we attend MIPIM to showcase exactly what is possible in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, particularly to attract further interest in our enterprise zone opportunities.”

Coun Collins, sponsored by Turner and Townsend, will be raising money for the nominated C2C charities and also for the Karen Green Foundation, a Nottingham-based charity launched in memory of Karen who lost her battle to Leukemia in July 2011.
