Forum will advise on pupil exclusion
NELSONS Solicitors will host a free forum offering training to senior education professionals on the rules and regulations of exclusions.
The forum is specifically aimed at headteachers and governors and will take place at Nelsons offices, Nottingham, on Tuesday 21 May.
The forum will be hosted by John Walker, education solicitor at Nelsons, and will provide comprehensive training to ensure schools are fully compliant with the legal requirements and are up to date with the new Exclusion Guidance.
John Walker said: “Training on exclusions has been vital for all schools since the implementation of the latest Exclusion Guidance in September 2012.
“During the forum we will cover a variety of areas such as behaviour and discipline policies, investigatory procedures, day to day discipline issues, challenging behaviour and much more – to ensure that headteachers and governors feel comfortable when handling an exclusion.
"It is crucial that exclusions are delivered in the correct manner and are in keeping with the latest regulations.”
The new regulations apply to any pupil excluded on or after 1 September 2012 and the process for challenging a school’s decision to permanently exclude a pupil has changed.
The old system of independent appeal panels has now been replaced by independent review panels which will be discussed in more detail at the forum.
