Golf club drive to boost membership

golfers at ShirlandShirland Golf Club is hosting an open day in a drive to boost membership.

Golfers and would-be golfers are invited to take part in the fun and games planned for May 31.

They can play three holes of the course for free and take part in activities and competitions with free golfing sessions and lessons as prizes.

One of the competitions will be a spot-the-ball challenge.

There will be activities for toddlers too and refreshments available throughout the event.

Club Chairman Mick Murtagh said: "We want people to come and see what we're all about, what we have to offer. We are not just a golf club, we're a social club for all the family, with golfing competitions thrown in for all age groups."

Shirland Golf Club, which is a DNCC member, is at Lower Delves, Shirland.

The open day starts at 1pm and will continue until nightfall.
