Buxton festival gala in presence of HRH Duke of Gloucestershire
Celebrated soprano Claire Rutter and acclaimed baritone Stephen Gadd will be the star performers in the event on Sunday 7 July, part of the Buxton Festival.
The Opera Gala will feature orchestral music, arias and scenes from the much loved operas of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet and Rossini.
The internationally renowned singers are joined by the Northern Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Barlow.
One of the UK’s leading sopranos, Claire received outstanding reviews for her performance in English National Opera’s new production of Lucrezia Borgia, and for ENO she has also sung Donna Anna Don Giovanni, the title roles in Tosca and Aida, Amelia Un ballo in maschera, Elvira Ernani, Gilda Rigoletto and Violetta La traviata.
English baritone Stephen Gadd’s roles have included Escamillo Carmen for Welsh National Opera; Balstrode Peter Grimes for the Opéras de Montpellier; Valentin Faust for the Opéra national du Rhin, Strasbourg; the title role in Don Giovanni for Opéra de Metz and Opéra de Rennes; Count Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro for the Salzburg Festival tour to Japan.
Last year he played the role of Storch in Intermezzo at the Buxton Festival.

The Festival also features a Double Bill of two sparkling French romances, Saint-Saens’ La Princesse Jaune and Gounod’s La Colombe and La finta giardiniera, the story of a couple reunited a year after apparent death, written by Mozart at the age of 17.
There are also a number of visiting opera performances – the acclaimed Grange Park Opera with Fortunio, Music Theatre Wales with the UK premiere of Sciarrino’s modern classic The Killing Flower, and La Serenissima with Vivaldi’s Ottone in villa.
