Sports leaders apprenticeship scheme

Cricket Derbyshire is launching a new Sports Leadership Apprenticeship Scheme for 16- to 18-year-olds.

The scheme will offer a unique opportunity for young people who want to pursue a career in sport to become the community sport activity coaches and leaders of the future.

As well as completing an apprenticeship with Cricket Derbyshire, there will be an opportunity for successful candidates to gain additional qualifications in coaching cricket and supporting school sport.

Director of Partnerships Ryan Duckett said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to work in a professional sport environment and gain industry-recognised qualifications.

“We will be working with the Mitre Group - one of the UK's leading apprenticeship skills development organisations - as we encourage more people from Derby City and across the County to get involved in cricket as players, coaches or volunteers.”

Jennie Bowmer, of Mitre Group, said: “We are looking forward to working with Cricket Derbyshire on this exciting new apprenticeship programme. The additional qualifications and the vocational experience gained will give an invaluable insight into the community programmes run by Cricket Derbyshire.

“Following the programme, we will also be providing progression routes on to L3 Sports Programmes to enable the apprentices to continue to develop their knowledge and skills.”

The scheme begins in September 2013 and is completed over a 12 month period. The closing date for applications is 30 August with a view to conducting interviews the week starting 2 September.
