City Transport wins top award
A nationally-recognised scheme, now in its ninth year, the Route One Excellence Awards are held in particularly high regard by bus and coach operators, as the nominees are short-listed by their peers in the industry.
The Nottingham operator learned of its success in front of over 600 industry VIPs at a special ceremony held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole last night.
NCT Managing Director, Mark Fowles was thrilled. He said: "Nottingham is going through a lot of changes to its infrastructure at the moment, so we’ve concentrated all our efforts on maintaining and improving the overall journey experience for our passengers.
"As well as expanding many routes and improving frequency and reliability, we’ve invested heavily in new vehicles, quality training for our staff and the most up-to-date technology – all without increasing fares for over two years.”
NCT accredits its ongoing investment programme and service improvements with an 11th successive year of passenger growth – an impressive accomplishment against a national backdrop of bus usage in England (outside London) falling by 2.5 per cent according to the Department of Transport.
“2013 has been a fantastic year for NCT and to be recognised by our peers in the industry with this award has made it particularly special,” Mark added.
NCT were named UK Bus Operator of the Year in 2012 at the UK Bus Awards and learns next week which categories they are short-listed for in the 2013 competition.Back
