Theresa Villiers business meeting

So when the office of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Theresa Villiers, called the Chamber on Thursday last week and said she was available on Monday in Derby, Head of Information and Policy Chris Hobson stepped up to represent DNCC.

With Chamber Board member and the Chair of the Derbyshire Members' Council Phil Stanyer, he was given 45 minutes to share with Theresa and Amanda Solloway, the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Derby North, the concerns, hopes and fears of Chamber members.

The Parliamentarians were heading off straight afterwards for an interview with a local radio station - fully armed with a raft of up-to-date information about the state of the local economy.

"It was a very good meeting and we were able to give her a lot of information about the state of the nation in the East Midlands," said Chris.

"Theresa told us that although her responsibility was Northern Ireland, David Cameron had told his team that he wanted them to get out and about ahead of the election."

Topics discussed included the results of the third Quarterly Economic Survey, access to finance, education and skills, red tape and regulation and infrastructure including HS2.
