Students make it happen with conference

Students at Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) are currently taking part in the College’s first annual Make It Happen Conference, a celebration of innovative learning techniques and future career options.

Starting yesterday and running until Thursday afternoon, the conference is exploring new innovations in learning, as well as providing a platform to share learning experiences for future success.

The conference is an opportunity for students across the College to attend a series of insightful presentations, workshops and exhibitions based on themes such as vibrant learning, teaching and assessment, preparing for work in the global environment and technology enhanced learning.

There will also be a range of industry guest speakers and educational experts delivering sessions throughout the conference, including presentations and workshops by TedxBrum, Epson, JISC, Instar Digital, Steljes, Mencap and representatives from local universities.

Fiona Hanson, Head of Quality and Performance at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “Everybody learns, but the ways in which we learn are changing rapidly. Our first annual conference at Burton and South Derbyshire College sets out to explore and contribute to building new cultures of learning, teaching and assessment.

“The intention is to make the four day conference an annual themed event which enhances the learner experience here at Burton and South Derbyshire College, providing students with opportunities to network with key employers, listen to past learners about their journey from college to employment/university, develop their digital skills for future learning and ensure they are prepared for employment, university or progression to another course at BSDC."
