App builder grows with DEGF help
The company has invested more than £300,000 into expanding the business and adding four new members of staff to meet the growing demand for mobile apps and mobile commerce websites from customers.
Four new roles have been created within the team, which is based on Victoria Way, including an Android App Developer, IOS App Developer, User Interface Designer and Business Development Manager.
Silver Pride started in 2004 offering integrated software for businesses and web design.
A decade on, the company has developed a number of key systems and online solutions to help businesses locally, nationally and further afield to grow. It has developed a strong portfolio of customers including businesses in the construction, recruitment, hospitality and fashion sectors.
“Over the past ten years we have seen massive changes in the software industry,” said director Graham Till.
He added: “In particular, online solutions for business have advanced dramatically with new technologies, mobile platforms and smart devices. We have stayed ahead of the curve and continued to add expertise to the team. Now, with a fully dedicated mobile development and design team, our software works well but looks fantastic too.”
Craig Tice, Director, said: “We understand customers want a project to not only look great and work seamlessly but to also work for them internally. So we develop mobile apps, software, e-commerce websites that engage the user but also integrate with back-end systems too."
Benjamin Benn, Director, said: “With the rise of mobile technology with widespread use of smart phones and tablets, the demand for mobile commerce solutions, or m- commerce as they are known is growing fast. "
He added: “We saw this trend coming so we started working with DEGF early to put the internal team in place to deal with it ahead of time.”
The £20m Derby Enterprise Growth Fund is run by Derby City Council and supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.
DEGF provides a catalyst for growth and job creation in businesses in the city and surrounding area through a mix of loans and grants. Due to the success of the scheme, the Fund will continue to accept bids for grants and loans until at least 2020, funded by repayments from over £11m of loans offered to businesses to date.
Derby City Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning, Environment and Regeneration Cllr Martin Rawson chairs the DEGF panel of industrial and financial experts who consider business applications.
He said: “Silver Pride’s expansion is fantastic news for Derby and reaffirms our reputation internationally as the UK's number one city for high-tech industries and innovation.
"Our aim as a Council is to support the ambitions of businesses in the city and travel to work area with the money they need to take advantage of growing order books and to create much needed jobs for local people.”
:: Silver Pride has developed an app to help people choose what to wear.
It was designed for Derby-based web company Which When Wear and allows users to upload photos of two outfit options and ask others for their opinion on which one they should go for.
Voters with an eye for fashion can search for outfits to canvas by occasion or brand.
Elliot Langan, from Derby, launched the initial website version of Which When Wear two years ago.
The idea came about from a conversation between Elliot and his mum, Amanda.
The website has been popular, but Elliot knew for the idea to reach its potential as a business idea, it needed to go mobile, so he asked a few companies in Derby who they would recommend for app building and Silver Pride’s name was mentioned several times.
Graham Till director at Silver Pride says: “The concept behind the Which When Wear idea is fantastic, but a mobile platform was what it really needed to grow a following.
“As an app that allows users to interact with each other, it needed to work seamlessly, but it also needed to integrate with the website and Elliot’s internal database system. We worked with Elliot to create a mobile responsive website with a new look and a great looking app which also captures data for the business.”
Elliot adds: “Finding a company that develops apps to the standard that Silver Pride work to right here in Derby was fantastic. From the beginning, they really understood the concept, and what was needed to make it a bigger success online. And they were great at keeping me up to date with the development.
“I’m really happy with the final result. The new app is already proving to be a hit and were now investing in a social media and marketing campaign to drive even more downloads. I will be working with Silver Pride to add new features next year including clothing sales through affiliated brands.”Back
