Diversions Add Journey Times on M1

Drivers are being urged to allow extra journey time when using the M1 around Chesterfield.

As part of the ongoing roadworks, overnight slip road closures are currently being enforced.

Until winter 2016, various restrictions will be in place between junctions 28 (Alfreton and Mansfield - A38) and 35a (Chapeltown and Stocksbridge - A616) to allow for construction of the Smart Motorway.

Motorists should allow an extra 20 minutes and ensure they have the necessary fuel to allow for the diversions.

Current slip road closures between 8am and 6pm include:

  • two nights - junction 30 southbound
  • five nights following week - junction 31 northbound

Where the road closure is an exit slip road, drivers are advised to stay on the motorway to the next junction and then come back to the desired exit. Where the closure is on the entry slip road, motorists should join the motorway in the opposite direction, exit at the next junction and then rejoin the motorway to continue their journey.
