LLEP lobbies for more business grants
The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) is at the Houses of Parliament in London today seeking new ways to find grant funding for local businesses.
A delegation of over 50 people including grant recipients and businesses partners will be joining the LLEP at a high profile event being attended by Ministers, MPs and Lords.
The event, sponsored by Rt Hon Nicky Morgan, MP, will celebrate the success of the LLEP’s £21m Regional Growth Fund (RGF) programme, as well as demonstrating that more money for businesses is needed in this area.
The LLEP’s RGF grant scheme closed to new applications in October 2014 because it was fully subscribed. Kevin Harris, Vice-Chair of the LLEP and Chair of the RGF Grant Panel said: “The LLEP’s RGF scheme has been hailed one of the most successful in the country with £20m spent across 196 businesses, creating nearly 2,900 jobs and levering in £106m of private funding.
“We have a long list of local businesses which still need grants and our job is to now try and find new ways to support them. This is a one of our clear objectives of our trip tomorrow.”
Four businesses are joining the LLEP in London, each with unique success stories and willing to explain how important the grant has been in helping their company’s growth plans. These are Carlton Laser Services, Bevex Ltd, Belvoir Fruit Farms and Universal Flexible Packaging.
John Harrison, Commercial Director of Universal Flexible Packaging said: “The grant we received from the LLEP was extremely beneficial and enabled us to bring our expansion plans to fruition at an earlier stage.
“We are very supportive of the LLEP’s bid to seek more funding to help the local economy and are delighted to be joining them in London to demonstrate this.”
As soon as any new funding becomes available, it will be promoted on the LLEP Business Gateway website. Businesses can sign up to receive updates at www.llepbizgateway.co.uk/business-grantsBack
