St George's day treats on East Midlands Trains
As part of rail operator's range of activities to "surprise and delight customers", a series of events and giveaways will be available across the network today.
These ‘treat’ days are normally a closely guarded secret. But for St George’s Day, East Midlands Trains decided to break its silence and raise awareness of the large amount of activity taking place to celebrate the event.
Staff will be handing out special St George’s Day Empire Biscuits at stations as well as surprise cream teas on selected trains to and from London.
There will also be a number of very special ‘St George meets St Pancras’ events at London St Pancras International Station during the afternoon.
‘St George’ will be engaging with customers in the station, giving out Empire biscuits and might even be happy to pose for a picture.
And there will be a ‘living statue’ in the station and anyone who poses for a ‘selfie’ with him and uploads it to the East Midlands Trains Facebook account will be entered into a special prize draw.
The winner will receive 1st Class train tickets to London and afternoon tea at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.
EMT Treats are designed to celebrate popular events and days and look to engage customers, employees, and local communities.
Andrew Conroy, Head of On Train for East Midlands Trains, said: “We are really excited to give our customers something different this St George’s Day, with special treats and some surprise guests too.
“EMT Treats is our way of saying thank you to our customers and perhaps brightening up their journey with something a little out of the ordinary, on trains and in stations and on St George’s Day this includes free Empire biscuits at a number of stations as well as delicious scones with clotted cream and jam on board a number of our London services.
“Finally, anyone travelling through St Pancras this afternoon should keep an eye out for the special living statue of St George. Simply send us your selfie with St George and you could be in for a free first class trip to London with a complimentary afternoon tea in the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.
“So, if you are travelling with us this Thursday, make sure you keep you keep an eye out – you might get a fantastic treat.”
St George’s Day Empire Biscuits will be handed out at various stations, including: Sheffield, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Lincoln, Skegness, Sleaford, East Midlands Parkway, Loughborough and Market Harborough.Back
