Fat Lads Raise £43,000 from Paris Cycle Ride
Despite that, they’ve just cycled 323 miles, climbed 12,000 feet and spent 25 hours over 4 days in the saddle to reach Paris and raise £43,000 in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity.
Spurred on by the Tour de France, the team bought road bikes to get fit and adopted the ‘Fat Lads from Dore’ nickname for fundraising purposes.
Pete (pictured) said: “We prepared for the trip with several demanding training rides, including riding from Morecambe to Bridlington in April this year, but this was a much bigger challenge as none of us has spent four consecutive days in the saddle.
"We’re absolutely delighted at the incredible support and generosity so far and would love to reach £50,000 so we can provide two rooms at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.”
Pete and the other 'Fat Lads' finished their final stage with a sprint up the Champs Élysées and completed their ride at the Eiffel Tower, just 24 hours before Chris Froome won the 2015 Tour de France.
Money raised is going to provide a new bedroom for young patients at the Children’s Hospital, which treats patients from across the North Derbyshire and Sheffield regions.
