Chamber welcomes decision on Hinkley Point C
The Government’s decision to allow the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station to go ahead has been welcomed by the Chamber.
Scott Knowles, the Chamber’s Chief Executive, said: “Allowing the project to go ahead will create jobs across the country and opportunities for local firms to be involved during construction and with ongoing expertise once the power station comes on line.
“It will also help to safeguard future energy supplies for UK plc, providing about seven per cent of the nation’s electricity needs and thereby reducing the risk of the country being held to ransom over supply and price when demand peaks in the winter months.
“Allowing the development to go ahead also bodes well for future relations between Britain and China. A third of the funding for the £18bn project, being led by French energy firm EDF, will come from state-owned China General Nuclear and China was one of the first countries to declare its intention to establish a post-Brexit trade agreement with the UK.”Back
