Second chance to learn about cyber risks and GDPR

Anyone who missed the Chamber's Securing Your Business In a Digital Age event at De Montfort University today, will get a second bite at the cherry on 26 September when Chamber strategic partner Air-IT stages its free Cyber Security Essentials & GDPR Readiness – Lunch, Learn & Prepare event at Notts County football club.

The event will start with a tour of the grounds before expert speakers from the Police Cyber Crime Unit, Browne Jacobson, ISAME and more share their professional insights into the latest cyber security threats, what you need to do to protect your business and how to prepare for changing data protection legislation.

Cyber threats are growing in both number and complexity. Government estimates suggest that cyber-attacks cost UK business £29.1bn in 2016, with some 2.9 million companies hit by some form of attack.

It’s believed over half of UK businesses have suffered a ransomware attack and the repercussions are becoming increasingly more severe with many high profile global attacks making the news. This has been a wake-up call for many, and the time has come for businesses to take their cyber-security seriously.

Additionally, forthcoming changes to data protection law being enforced by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) from 25 May 2018 means businesses need to plan to meet compliance.

Delegates will gain an inside view from the police about how cyber crime is affecting local business, understand the growing risks and implications of a cyber-attack, gain practical, Government-backed advice from accredited cyber experts, learn how to dramatically reduce the risk of becoming a victim, learn about disaster recovery and contingency planning and learn about standards and Government frameworks available to help safeguard a business

The event is aimed at business owners, chief executives, financial directors, IT directors/managers, compliance officers, managers and employees and those wanting to develop a greater understanding of cyber security.
