LLEP appoints Chamber Vice President as Chair
The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) has appointed Kevin Harris as its new Chair.
Alongside his new role with the LLEP, Kevin is also Partner at Chamber Strategic Partner RSM and is currently Vice President at the East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire). He will take the reins of office from current Chamber President Rob Mayo in November.
The LLEP, formed in 2011, is a strategic body led by a Board made up of local Government and business leaders as well as senior education and third sector representatives. It works with a number of local and regional institutions, including the Chamber, to drive forward regeneration and growth of the local economy.
Kevin’s appointment was ratified at a LLEP board meeting on 26 June. He will fulfil the role until May 2020.
He succeeds Nick Pulley, Regional Director at Chamber member Santander Corporate Bank, who served as a board member for two years before becoming the LLEP Board Chair for the past four years.
He said: “Kevin has been a very valuable member of the LLEP board for over three years and is currently Vice-Chair. He is well known and well connected in the Leicester and Leicestershire area and his interface with the business community will continue to be a great asset in this role.
“Along with the existing board members and three new board members appointed in June, I know Kevin has the ability and leadership qualities to drive the LLEP onwards and upwards.”
Kevin said: “I am delighted to be taking over as Chair of the LLEP at such an exciting time. The impact of global and domestic economic changes presents significant opportunities for Leicester and Leicestershire, given its strong entrepreneurial track record.
“When combined with the diversity of the local population and its excellent central location, the city and county has much to shout about. An effective Local Industrial Strategy will be a key factor for success and I am looking forward to playing a significant role in the development and delivery of this, alongside other key initiatives.”
Chamber Chief Executive Scott Knowles added: “The Chamber’s congratulations go to Kevin on his appointment. The position of Chair at LLEP is an important and influential one and I am sure Kevin will add great value.
“There is a natural synergy between the Chamber and LLEP and to have Kevin involved so prominently with both will, I am sure, be of great benefit to the thousands of businesses across Leicester and Leicestershire that count on the support of both organisations.”Back
