Skills-based immigration policy should ease employers’ concerns
Prime Minister Theresa May’s announced plans for a skills-based immigration policy post-Brexit will go some way to easing employers concerns, says the Chamber.
Scott Knowles, Chief Executive at the Chamber, said: “One of the big fears throughout the Brexit process has been that Britain could lose easy access to skilled workers from the EU. Although we are still awaiting the detailed report, we are sure our members will broadly welcome news that immigration post-Brexit will be skills based.
“The test will be whether the new rules will let businesses access skills and talent quickly and easily. Many firms will still be worried about the potential for increased red tape and bureaucracy for job applicants.
“Government must work with business on a phased approach to change so that companies of all sizes and across all sectors can continue to recruit and invest with confidence.”Back
