Latest business Brexit video includes strong message to Chancellor Hammond
On the eve of the ‘meaningful vote’ in Westminster tomorrow – part of what is being described as an historic week for Parliament – the Chamber’s Brexit Advisory Group is repeating its call on businesses not to sit back and wait for Brexit to happen them.
Scott Knowles, the award-winning Chamber’s Chief Executive, has, this morning, published a new video, urging companies to take advantage of the help available to make the transition to a post-Brexit economy as seamless as possible.
And he has issued a strong message to Chancellor Philip Hammond not to waste the opportunity of his Spring Statement on Wednesday to send a message to the EU.
In the video Scott says: “You need to use your Spring Statement to send a very strong message to Brussels that UK plc remains open for businesses, no matter what.
“We want you to make sure that Britain remains a global market leader, to encourage all of those creative, those innovative, those World-class British businesses, and those overseas, to look at the UK, to build their headquarters, to build their centres of operation here. And we want [you] to make sure we use every incentive at our disposal to make sure that happens.”
Also in the video, Scott says: “To businesses, I want to say, don’t just let Brexit happen to you.
“Businesses are the creators of wealth, of prosperity, of jobs across the whole United Kingdom. They must have clarity for the coming financial year, and beyond, with at least a degree of confidence that they can deliver against plans.
“How can businesses budget for a future mired in uncertainty? How can they plan future production, investment, recruitment or training if they don’t know what availability they’ll have to skilled workers, how they’ll access an EU workforce, what raw materials will cost, what export markets they’ll have or what tariffs might exist?
“Don’t wait for Brexit to happen to you. Please look at the Chamber website, please download the Chamber’s Brexit Checklist. Even though it’s late in the day, these are tools that will help you.”
Off the video, Scott said today: “The next few days are going to be critical to the UK’s future but businesses can and should be doing what they can to ensure their own continuing success whatever happens in Parliament.
“We have done everything we can to make sure help, as far as it is possible, is available to businesses to guide them through these difficult times.”
The Brexit Checklist, Scott’s latest video and other support for businesses are available in the Brexit support section of the Chamber’s website: https://www.emc-dnl.co.uk/enabling-international-trade/brexit-support/.
