Chamber reaction to MPs’ vote to reject no-deal Brexit
Reacting to tonight’s vote on whether the UK should leave the EU without a deal, Scott Knowles, Chief Executive at award-winning East Midlands Chamber*, said: “The EU is the UK’s closest neighbour and its biggest single export market. That trading relationship has existing for decades. To walk away from it without an agreement for future trade was always going to be difficult.
“If the decision by MPs tonight to reject the notion of a no-deal separation results eventually in an agreement that removes the risk of a disorderly divorce then we have to support it.
“However, it does nothing to give business the clarity it needs today to plan for the future and tomorrow night’s vote, if agreed, will serve only to extend the uncertainty that is continuing to stifle investment.”
