White paper on regulation welcomed by Chamber

The Government’s bid to keep the UK at the forefront of global technological advancement with a light touch on cross sector regulation to encourage investment in innovation has been welcomed by the region’s leading business organisation.

Commenting on the Regulation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution white paper, announced yesterday by Business Secretary Greg Clark, Scott Knowles, Chief Executive at the award winning Chamber, said: “It shows the Government is both aware of the challenges of new technology and determined to maintain the UK’s status as a principal player in its development.

“It sets out how the Government will use a new Regulatory Horizons Council to identify risks and adapt regulations across sector boundaries to prevent one set of rules blocking innovation that is compliant elsewhere, while at the same time recognising the rights of individuals.

“The East Midlands is the manufacturing spine of the UK and recognised as a global leader in advanced technologies so we will be keenly watching to see how the white paper is delivered in the real world, but broadly speaking we welcome its intentions.”
