MD Dan Stevens reflects on Primary’s 10 year Anniversary
Market Harborough based Event Management agency Primary is celebrating 10 years of designing and producing solutions for events and exhibitions in the UK and abroad.
After 25 years in the events industry, Primary Managing Director Dan Stevens was highly motivated to set up an agency with a difference following redundancy from a Production Director role.
Dan says: “I had a head full of fresh ideas and there was everything to gain by keeping up the momentum and I literally set up the company a week later. I truly believed there was everything to gain by pulling together under one roof all the disciplines required to create and produce events. Primary still builds on that ethos - the business continues to grow and to bring together experienced people to enable us to offer creativity, innovation and the best project management to our customers.”
What event are you most proud of?
It has to be the work we did for the VIP launch event at the ‘Going Underground’ Exhibition for Siemens Rail (now Siemens Mobility) at the Crystal building at Royal Victoria Docks in London. This showcased their driverless energy efficient ‘Inspiro’ metro trains to dignitaries and MPs. Our output was something highly creative and a first in the events industry. We used 3D projection mapping onto a train to help illustrate the future of underground travel and turned the whole project around in an exceptionally tight time frame. We won the prestigious C&IT (Conference & Incentive Travel) Product Launch of the Year Award and gained a huge amount of press coverage.
Which event did you find the most challenging?
The largest event we have managed is a three-day conference of over 1500 delegates in Spain that required an on-site team of nearly 60 people and two years of planning. With 99 presenters, 100+ break-out sessions and requiring highest service level standards befitting the client’s brand, an event of this scale draws upon all our skills~ creativity for innovative content through to production, logistics and exceptional project management. We ensured that every last detail was covered and each and every delegate looked after individually.
What is your proudest moment?
Difficult to highlight, but probably realising “significant business growth” three or four years in, having created a dedicated team of highly positive and hard-working employees. Being recognised by the industry and winning awards for excellent work are obviously highlights but on-going repeat business from our clients demonstrates the depth of our working relationships and above all the quality of our work.
What is the best bit of the job?
I genuinely love what I do. The satisfaction on the clients’ faces is priceless ~ there’s nothing better than positive feedback. I also love seeing colleagues flourish in their roles ~ looking after our people really brings out the best in them and helps Primary to foster our creative skills and a thirst for knowledge.
What’s next for Primary?
We want to continue to work with global brands and to promote long-lasting working relationships and to push boundaries to allow them to achieve both communications and wider marketing objectives. We want to demonstrate the benefits of working with smaller agencies ~ our dedication, commitment and value. This is how Primary sets itself apart in a very competitive industry.Back
