Jake and Nayns' wins the IGD Small Business Award

On the back of becoming the Chamber’s Leicestershire Business of the Year, hand-held street food manufacturer, Jake and Nayns’, has won the prestigious IGD Award for Small Business.

Jake and Nayns’ sells to over 3,500 stores in the UK. Its acclaimed Naanster can be found in the likes of Sainsbury’s, Spar, Londis and the Co-op.

IGD is a research and training charity which sits at the heart of the food and grocery industry. The IGD Small Business Award, sponsored by the Co-op, is for those companies with turnover under £10m but who demonstrate huge potential. Jake and Nayns’ received the industry accolade for its excellence and innovation which has generated lasting benefits for their companies, staff and customers.

Jake Karia, Managing Director said: “Winning this award means a great deal to us. To be in a room full of our peers and to be recognised for the hard work that the entire team has put in growing the Jake and Nayns’ brand of street food is amazing.

“Five big awards in under a year has shown us that we are on the right track but this is only the beginning and we have a long way to go.”

Michael Fletcher, Retail Chief Commercial Officer at Co-op, and category sponsor, said: “When choosing this year’s winner, we took inspiration from all the shortlisted businesses not only from the quality of their ideas but also their bravery in backing those ideas with their livelihoods to realise their ambitions.

“After much debate the judges decided to award the prize to Jake and Nayns’, the business that demonstrated the most resilience in the face of the inevitable adversity of starting a business.

“We were impressed with the strong support network around Jake and Nayns’ and I would encourage all larger businesses to help smaller businesses bounce back from inevitable knocks companies encounter as they look to expand and grow.”
