Chamber urges greater infrastructure investment for region under prospective new Government
Responding to the recent political campaigning centred on infrastructure investment, Scott Knowles, Chief Executive of East Midlands Chamber*, said:
“It is encouraging to see infrastructure – including potential plans to modernise Midland Mainline – being part of the pre-election conversation, as all political parties outline their visions for a future under their respective leaderships.
“However, amid all the noise, claims and counter claims it is fundamentally actions, not words, that will make a difference to businesses and the communities they serve.
“To this end, we expect any new Government – irrespective of political colour - to acknowledge the investment disparity between the East Midlands and many other regions; something the Chamber has campaigned long and hard for on behalf of its members.
Investing in, and improving, our region’s infrastructure – which is so critical to businesses both here and across the UK – will go some way to readdressing this imbalance and the long-called-for electrification of Midland Mainline should, along with fulfilling HS2, be right at the very top of the priority list.”Back
