Chamber reacts to Brexit Withdrawal Agreement vote
Reacting to news that MPs have voted 358 to 234 in favour of Boris Johnson's plan for the UK to leave the EU on 31 January, Scott Knowles, Chief Executive at East Midlands Chamber*, said: “The breaking of the impasse in Parliament will be welcomed by business, which has been frustrated by chronic Brexit uncertainty for too long.
“However, this isn’t the beginning of the end of the process, it is merely the end of the beginning.
“It is imperative that the UK wastes no time in negotiating an EU-UK trade deal that is fit for purpose and allows businesses both here and in Europe to mutually prosper.
“It is equally vital that business plays a pivotal role in negotiations; it is business after all which will be subjected to the challenges and opportunities that emerge from any such agreement.
“Only by placing business front-and-centre can we truly see the return of much-needed long-term confidence.”
