Chamber launches new network for future leaders
The Chamber has launched a new network designed to equip aspiring professionals across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire with the experience and opportunities to succeed.
Named Generation Next, the innovative new network will provide resources to develop the skills and knowledge of new businesspeople and enterprise start-ups.
The project will offer networking opportunities and the sharing of experiences and best practice as well as workshops and a mix of formal and informal topical events, hosted by and featuring a diverse range of the Chamber’s member companies and specialist advisers.
Generation Next aims to retain the skills and talent that exist within the region; highlighting in the process that the East Midlands is an attractive proposition to any young starter in which to build their lives both professionally and personally.
It launched on 18 February, with over 100 delegates attending the dedicated event at Hilton East Midlands Airport. Simon Ambrose, winner of the third series of the popular reality TV show The Apprentice, was the keynote speaker at the event.
Simon spoke about his career journey to date, from starting out in finance and his success during his role working with Lord Sugar, to his current business in property development.
He said: “Aim high because if you aim for the stars you will hit the stratosphere. The most successful people think big. Reinvent the wheel if you must to start something completely new, sometimes you have to rip up the rule book and start again.”
Lucy Robinson, the Chamber’s Director of Resources, said: “We are so excited to see the launch of Generation Next and it is fantastic to see that all the hard work behind the scenes has paid off with a successful, full-capacity launch.
“Our mission is to develop and retain the skills in our region, because the East Midlands can thrive if its people do.
“It has been a great start for the network, and we’re looking forward to helping aspiring professionals, from undergraduates to enterprise start-ups, build their futures within our prosperous region.”
