Chamber condemns threats against essential telecoms workers
Commenting on media reports which suggest that telecommunications engineers have been the victim of threats and abuse and networks have suffered vandalism and criminal damage, Chris Hobson, Director of Policy and External Affairs at East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire), said:
“Telecoms workers play a crucial role in supporting the global fight against Covid-19.
“In the current climate, with the ongoing pandemic continuing to have an impact on all facets of life, businesses and residents are more reliant than ever on communications networks which are robust, resilient and enable them to stay connected with their people and families.
“Our mobile and broadband infrastructure provides the critical link between people, the emergency services and the NHS, so it’s vital that the key workers who provide essential maintenance to keep it up and running can do so without fear of abuse or vandalism.”
