Enterprise Europe Network is organising an interactive workshop to help manufacturing companies understand how to best manage their intellectual property.

This workshop, delivered in partnership with Adamson Jones, will provide delegates with an overview of the types of IP protection to consider as well as knowledge of the IP protection framework. You will learn about IP identification, creation and ownership of intellectual property rights, how IP functions in the supply chain and how IP rights are commonly enforced. You will also have the option of holding one-to-one meetings with the experts in the afternoon.

Key elements of the workshop will include:

  • Perform your own IP audit
  • Decide what IP protection to put in place
  • Understand practical factors affecting the value of your IP
  • Plan for commercial exploitation of IP rights
  • Learn about Enterprise Europe Network's Innovate 2 Succeed programme

About the Trainer

Nic Ferrar joined the patent profession in 2003, training at a London-based private practice. Since that time Nic has worked for the UK’s largest firm of Patent Attorneys and also gained experience in industry at Rolls-Royce plc, where he both handled a patent prosecution caseload and advised the business on commercial Intellectual Property matters.

Nic Ferrar holds a Masters of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Leeds and qualified as a Patent Attorney in 2007. Maintaining a focus on supporting UK-based manufacturers, Nic opened Adamson Jones’s Leicester office in 2016 and has experience of a wide variety of technical subject matter across all engineering disciplines, including specialist knowledge of rotating machinery, fluid dynamics, machining and moulding processes. Nic also maintains a strong interest in software-related innovations in the fields of design, analysis, control, diagnostics and health monitoring.

Nic is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, a member of that Institute’s Computer Technology Committee and a Member of the European Patents Institute. Nic has delivered seminars on Intellectual Property protection and strategy for the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and has written in-house IP training courses for Rolls-Royce plc.

The objective of this consultation is to identify those non-EU countries where intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and enforcement is a high concern, and to update the list of the priority countries where it will act to try and help them improve their IPR systems.
