This workshop will be delivered by Nic Ferrar from Adamson Jones who will provide a fundamental understanding of the IP protection framework and what types of IP protection are relevant to manufacturers.
Guidance and workshop exercises will cover IP identification, creation and ownership of IP rights, the role of IP in the supply chain, commercial exploitation and enforcement of IP rights.

About Nic Ferrar
Nic joined the patent profession in 2003, training at a London-based private practice. Since that time Nic has worked for the UK’s largest firm of Patent Attorneys and also gained experience in industry, at Rolls-Royce plc, where he both handled a patent prosecution caseload and advised the business on commercial Intellectual Property matters.
Nic Ferrar holds a Masters of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Leeds and qualified as a Patent Attorney in 2007. Maintaining a focus on supporting UK-based manufacturers, Nic opened Adamson Jones’s Leicester office in 2016 and has experience of a wide variety of technical subject matter across all engineering disciplines, including specialist knowledge of rotating machinery, fluid dynamics, machining and moulding processes. Nic also maintains a strong interest in software-related innovations in the fields of design, analysis, control, diagnostics and health monitoring.
Nic is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, a member of that Institute’s Computer Technology Committee and a Member of the European Patents Institute. Nic has delivered seminars on Intellectual Property protection and strategy for the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and has written in-house IP training courses for Rolls-Royce plc.
This event is delivered as part of the Collaborate Growing Business Together project in partnership with Growth Hub – LLEP Business Gateway, Adamson Jones and East Midlands Chamber of Commerce and is specifically aimed at businesses based in Leicester and Leicestershire, with fewer than 250 employees and which meet the eligibility criteria.
