Overview

Why the post exists

Do you enjoy building and maintaining relationships with businesses? Can you put the customer at the heart of what you do? Do you have experience successfully supervising a team? If so, you could be our next Membership Team Leader.

In this role you will be a motivating and supportive supervisor to the membership team. Your team create as well as maintain high-quality communications and relationships with Chamber members (including prospective members) to ensure that they access and experience excellent service(s) and therefore want to join or remain in membership.

You must be comfortable managing a portfolio of your own member accounts, proactively monitoring team performance and providing coaching to individuals to achieve their objectives and team key performance indicators.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Responsible for ensuring that the Membership team deliver a quality service and high-level of customer service to all members.
  • Motivate and performance manage direct reports to achieve their relevant targets including regular meetings and appraisals, identifying training needs, etc.
  • Support the portfolio Director to develop the function including raising awareness of products and services to increase member engagement.
  • Positively contribute to membership sales and retention targets to ensure that key performance indicators are achieved.
  • Develop and drive process improvements forward for the team to ensure a continually improving service for our customers.
  • Act as a point of contact for the Membership function regards any potential customer issues, escalating to the portfolio Director as required, to help ensure successful retention in line with targets.
  • Deliver timely management information that supports reporting required by the Chamber.
  • Provide an excellent level of customer service to all members including setting an example for team members.
  • Identify and generate sales leads, with a focus on recruiting businesses with 10 or more employees.
  • Promote the benefits of Chamber membership which includes a wide range of events, webinars, services and financial savings.
  • Create and maintain quality interactions with members leading to greater retention rates.
  • Be calm under pressure and passionate about improving member understanding of the service(s) they can access.
  • Utilise excellent organisational and prioritisation skills to manage a customer led workload.

Overview

Ideally applicants will possess

  • Relevant and demonstrable experience of managing a varied portfolio of businesses.
  • Supervisory experience within a customer service focused function.
  • Successfully line managed and worked within a hybrid working model.
  • Can engage with businesses and able to change approach depending on the circumstances.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Tech savvy – in particular with Microsoft office and cloud-based applications such as CRMs.
  • Highly motivated and a self starter.
  • Good use of English, in writing and verbally.

If you’re successful at this stage, you will be invited for an interview. If you’re unsuccessful, the Chamber’s HR team will let you know by email.

First, you’ll be invited to interview onsite at one of the Chamber’s offices or virtually via Microsoft Teams (role dependant). If your interview goes well, you may invited to attend a second interview or offered the role. Some interviews might require you to compile some research or to prepare a presentation. At the end of the interview, the interviewer will confirm the timeline for next steps.

Interviews usually last around an hour with a mix of competency based interview questions, and in some cases, we might ask you to carry out some practical exercises.

Decisions will be made at each stage of the process, as we score applicants against the role criteria. If you’re successful, we will contact you to make an offer. This will be followed up in writing and a contract will be sent to you once a start date is confirmed. You will receive information on your induction and what you will do on your first day.
