Exporters from the life sciences sector are being invited to join a new British Chambers of Commerce initiative with Singapore, supported by East Midlands Chamber.
The Singapore Life Sciences Trade Accelerator is a six-month pilot programme, set up in partnership with NatWest and the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore, aiming to bolster exports by connecting up to 30 UK SMEs with the South-East Asian market, with selection based on their potential to grow sales in the region.
Findings from the pilot will used to help develop and scale-up support for British export-ready businesses to other sectors and markets such as the US, India, the Gulf and wider Indo-Pacific region by working with the British Chambers of Commerce’s network of Chambers across the world.
The scheme is supported by the Department for Business and Trade, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, UK Export Finance, Innovate UK and the Singapore Economic Development Board.
A British Chambers of Commerce webinar, closing for registration on 9th March, has been set up for businesses that wish to be considered.
East Midlands Chamber Head of International Trade Lucy Granger said: “With South-East Asia one of the fastest growing markets for overseas trade, especially for life sciences, this is a tremendous opportunity for an exporter in that sector to get their products into that region.
“Trading internationally has become more challenging in recent years, with increased paperwork and associated costs, so being able to get a leg up and bespoke service from the British Chambers of Commerce to explore a foreign market that has such enormous potential is definitely worth exploring.
“Pilot schemes like this are a good forward step in securing access to international markets and I’d strongly advise any party that feels they could benefit to reach out to our International Trade department in the East Midlands, in the first instance and from there consider whether the Singapore Life Sciences Trade Accelerator could work for them.”
