East Midlands Chamber has announced an exclusive strategic partnership with Leicester College is to be extended.
The collaboration enables both parties to work together to influence and help shape future policy over the skills agenda in Leicester and Leicestershire. East Midlands Chamber is the lead employer representative body for the Leicester and Leicestershire Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) and produces annual reports tracking its progress.
Continued partnership with the Chamber’s network for young businesspeople – Generation Next – is a key part of the extended collaboration with the College.
With three campuses and industry standard facilities, Leicester College provides a number of courses from entry level to level 7, T levels and higher technical qualifications.
East Midlands Chamber Chief Executive Scott Knowles said: “Addressing the skills gap so employers get candidates that match their requirements is an essential ingredient in reducing unemployment and boosting economic growth, so bringing further education together with business is valuable.
“When you combine the insight of educators and employers, lobbying policymakers to get the very best local skills agenda is going to get the best outcomes. That’s what our strategic partnership with Leicester College sets out to achieve for Leicester and Leicestershire.”

Leicester College Principal and CEO Shabir Ismail said: “To support the Local Skills Improvement Plan, we are continuing to shape our education and training so that it reflects the skills local employers need most, particularly in key growth industries. Our partnership with the East Midlands Chamber is central to this work, helping us to influence and respond to the regional skills agenda.
“By extending our partnership with the Chamber, we can play a meaningful role in strengthening the local business landscape and supporting current and future students as they move into the workplace.”
