Carbon offsets are used by many businesses to reduce their overall emissions. They can be really beneficial to the planet, but they often hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. In this webinar we will look at what carbon offsets are, the benefits they offer, why they get bad press and how you can use them effectively whilst still working to reduce your own emissions.
Overview
In this webinar we will cover:

- What carbon offsets are
- The range of offsets available to you
- The challenges of using offsets including permanence, double-counting, and potential social and environmental harm
- Best practice for using offsets
- How to communicate the use of offsets to avoid accusations of greenwashing
- The latest recommendations from the Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI)
- The vital importance of reducing your own emissions first
Additional Information
This webinar will be delivered by Sophie Wragg, a Leadership and Sustainability Coach at Be Your Best Version. Sophie is working to help to build a nation of leaders we can be truly proud of. Leaders who are more connected to sustainable ways of working. Whether this is more inclusive workplace policies, more flexible working opportunities, more connection to the mental wellbeing of staff or creating systems and processes that enable the business to grow in a way that has a positive impact on the world in which it operates. She firmly believes climate action offers huge opportunities for businesses as well as the obvious benefits to our planet. To help as many businesses as possible to become more environmentally conscious, Sophie has spoken at a business conference held at the Old Trafford stadium. Sophie has also authored Sustainable Business: Uncover the Benefits of Embracing Environmental and Social Responsibility, which helps UK SMEs to calculate their carbon footprint, create decarbonisation plans and develop their social responsibility. This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) in partnership with East Midlands Chamber.
