The High Growth Academy is an exciting programme of events, workshops and forums, brought to you by East Midlands Chamber in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, University of Derby and University of Nottingham. It is aimed at businesses in the EMCCA region.

Growth Drivers: Access to Finance
Accessing finance is one of the most common challenges for businesses at any stage. This interactive one-day workshop provides you with a clear roadmap to understanding and securing appropriate funding for your venture. From identifying your financial needs to learning how to pitch effectively - this workshop will equip you with the knowledge to make sense of the funding and finance environment.

Overview

Who should attend?
This workshop is aimed at business owners, CEOs, MDs, senior managers or strategic leaders, from early-stage scaling businesses (typically < 25 employees), focused on building strong foundations across sales, strategy, innovation, accessing new markets and leadership.

What’s covered:
During this workshop you will be introduced to concepts such as:
• Understanding your finance needs
• Sources of finance
• Planning for funding
• Investor and lender perspectives
• Preparing to pitch

Outcome

What outcomes will be achieved?
This workshop will help you make sense of the funding and finance environment. You will be able to make informed decisions about your finance options and learn how to refine your approach to potential investors.

Speaker Profiles:

This workshop will be delivered by David Achtzehn and Laura Bond from the University of Nottingham.

Dr David Achtzehn
David is Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation, specialising in entrepreneurship education and employment relations in high-growth start-ups. With academic and industry experience in Thailand, Switzerland and the UK, he leads multiple Undergraduate, MSc and MBA modules and serves as Departmental Teaching Director, contributing extensively to programme development and academic events.

Dr Laura Bond
Laura is Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship, Sustainability and Innovation. With a background in science-based innovation and venture building (former roles at IP Group plc and Walgreens Boots Alliance), Laura supports business growth through executive education, mentoring, and investment. She contributes to programmes like “Help to Grow: Management”, works as Entrepreneur in Residence at the school’s innovation centre, and is active as a non-executive director and angel investor.

Eligibility:

This workshop is open to eligible high growth businesses located in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire that can demonstrate 20% annual growth in revenue, employment, or market share over the past three consecutive years.

You must be registered on the High Growth Accelerator project.

Receipt of this support is subject to the Subsidy Control Act (2022). To qualify an enterprise cannot have received more than £315,000 Minimal Financial Assistance (MFA) and or De Minimis within any three-year period.

The project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
