Exporters to benefit from Gulf free trade deal

East Midlands Chamber has welcomed the government’s free trade agreement with the six Arab states that make up the Gulf Cooperation Council, saying supply chains and exporters are set to gain from lower tariffs.

Head of International Trade Lucy Granger said: “Nearly 60 billion is generated for the UK economy from the Gulf region each year, so a deal that will lower the costs of exporting everything from automotives to food and drink is going to be good news for exporters, while stimulating inward investment.

“Every trade deal achieved is a step forward for firms that export and good for the associated supply chains.  For businesses looking to explore new overseas markets and opportunities, keen to look at how best to proceed, the Chamber’s International Trade department provides the guidance and the documentation needed.

“New agreements like this with the six Arab states of the Gulf Cooperation Council widen the scope of opportunity for exporters, bringing down their costs and opening growth potential.”
