Businesses have significant carbon emissions impact and a key role to reduce emissions to help meet the government’s Net Zero target by 2050.

Businesses have significant carbon emissions impact and a key role to reduce emissions to help meet the government’s Net Zero target by 2050. Carbon management becomes an important aspect of businesses of all size and type. However, many of the businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs), need the required knowledge, skills, and competencies to implement carbon management. Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University academics and sustainability experts have the research and practice-based expertise and knowledge to support businesses in decarbonisation to be on a path to Net Zero.

This Carbon Management Workshop Programme will help you understand carbon accounting and management within your business. The sessions are interactive and practical, focused on your business. You will learn how to measure your carbon footprint and how you can work to reduce it through a range of interventions. You will gain understanding and confidence to enable you to engage with external stakeholders such as suppliers and internally with colleagues. Key elements of the workshop programme include wider context including policy & legislation, business case for carbon management, measuring carbon footprint to set a baseline, carbon reduction targets, developing carbon management strategies and an action plan for Decarbonisation. We will guide you through creating a Decarbonisation Plan which will get you started on your journey to Net Zero.

This one day workshop programme is split into four sessions:
• Introduction to Carbon Management and the Business Case
• Carbon Footprinting (Carbon Accounting)
• Strategic Action Planning
• Communication and Reporting

Who should attend?
This workshop programme is suitable for managers and people working in businesses who would like to understand carbon management, measure their carbon footprint and develop a Decarbonisation Plan for their business.

The programme can help take their business forward by effectively implementing carbon management and understand how carbon management can help achieve other business benefits such as cost savings, resource efficiency and competitiveness for a truly sustainable business.

• Basics of climate change and the role of business
• Definition of key terms such as Net Zero, Carbon Neutral, Carbon • Offsetting, Greenwashing
• Policy context for carbon management
• The business case – drivers for carbon management.
• Defining scopes and organisational/operational boundaries
• Identifying business resource data for carbon footprinting
• Carbon footprinting (carbon accounting)
• Creating a Decarbonisation Plan and strategy for implementation
• Learning from good practice case studies
• Communicating carbon management performance and reporting

What outcomes can you expect from joining us

Delivered by:
Dr Rose Deakin is the Carbon Management Consultant at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University with over 20 years of experience working within the field of Sustainability. They have a PhD from Loughborough University which focussed on businesses in the UK to understand the drivers and barriers to sustainable material selection in mass manufactured product design. Rose has a BA (hons) in Industrial Design and Technology, giving them a good understanding of product design and manufacturing. Rose is an experienced lecturer and workshop facilitator, having worked with both businesses and University Students. Rose is the founder of The Crop Club CIC, an Award-Winning Social Enterprise that helps people grow food in small spaces and is wholly built around sustainability.

Workshops are open to start-up and established small to medium sized enterprises located in the following local authority areas taking part in the East Midlands Chamber’s Accelerator project:
Amber Valley; Ashfield; Bassetlaw; Broxtowe; Chesterfield; Derby; Derbyshire Dales; Erewash; Gedling; High Peak; Leicester City; Mansfield; Newark & Sherwood; North East Derbyshire; Nottingham; Rushcliffe; South Derbyshire.
 
(Please note: Businesses based in districts not participating in the Accelerator project (i.e. Bolsover/ Leicestershire) may attend providing they are members of East Midlands Chamber. In such instances, please contact Ella Mistry on 07387141589 who will approve your booking)
 
The Accelerator project delivers online webinars and full-day workshops. The webinars are designed as one-hour taster sessions and the workshops as full-day training sessions which are designed to provide delegates with an actionable plan and strategy.
 
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and is delivered by East Midlands Chamber.
