Description
This forum aims to support regional retrofit skills development, part of its push is to support green skills in the district and region, specifically relating to Retrofit Skills.

Bolsover District Council will be the lead partner on behalf of councils, colleges, universities, independent training providers and retrofit and associated employers from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The forums will ensure that business needs are fully represented which includes identifying key challenges, gaps and pinch points for the retrofit and energy efficiency sectors.
Overview
Agenda (to be finalised)

- Arrival, networking over breakfast

- Welcome from the Chair

- Inclusive Growth, Network Economies and Retrofit at Scale – Dr Mike Siebert, School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, Nottingham Trent University

Few challenges can be successfully tackled within the constraints of their own existence. For retrofit to be both scalable and affordable, we need to develop a regional approach that is appropriate for us and recognises East Midlands Combined County Authority’s other objectives.

We will hear how our approach involves making better use of our many SMEs, and that starts with finding a way to connect with them that is in itself scalable and affordable.

- Sustaining Heritage: Smarter Maintenance, Greener Retrofits, Stronger Conservation – Becky Valentine, Co-owner, Sustainability & Building Health Consultant, Spenbeck

There is a need to look after historic buildings in ways that protect their character and reduce their environmental impact. Far from being barriers, heritage buildings can become leaders in sustainability when cared for intelligently and yet they are frequently referred to ‘difficult”, “challenging” and excluded from the decarbonisation conversation altogether. This session explores how sustainable practices in maintenance, retrofitting and conservation can protect historic character and cut carbon.

- East Midlands Combined Counties Retrofit Strategy – Richard Winter, Richard Winter, Climate Change Officer, Corporate Policy and Devolution Team, Bolsover District Council

This strategy, which will have been launched just prior to the forum, sets out a systems-led, place-based roadmap to accelerate home retrofit, setting out the approach across six pillars: community, skills and training, homes, low carbon technology, financial resourcing and governance.

- Update on other retrofit acitivity in the region, discussion on opportunities and future content.
Outcome
The Employer Forum will aim to:

- Explore and identify challenges for developing retrofit installation supply chain capacity
- Identify areas of best practice already being undertaken
- Share knowledge
- Provide supporting evidence and insights
- Support future funding bids
