Join us at the Arkwright Society as Buildings and Facilities Manager for Cromford Mills.

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and hands-on professional to lead maintenance, safety, and overall facility management at this pivotal time. As part of our senior management team, you’ll help shape the future of Cromford Mills as we move into our next major regeneration phase.

Established in 1971, the Arkwright Society is an educational and conservation charity committed to preserving the industrial heritage of Cromford Mills. Built by Sir Richard Arkwright in the 1770s, the site is one of the world’s most significant heritage landmarks, situated in the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The site today is a lively and dynamic complex, featuring visitor exhibitions, a business centre, cafés, and a thriving events and conference programme. Our award-winning education offer and committed volunteer team contribute to a unique and vibrant working environment.

This is a multifaceted, hands-on role, ideal for someone with strong operational oversight and practical repair and maintenance capabilities. We are looking for candidates with direct experience leading maintenance and facilities functions at comparable sites, alongside excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.  Go to https://www.cromfordmills.org.uk/about/jobs/

Job details

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and planning priority maintenance and repair work.
  • Taking a lead role in practical repair tasks (both in-house and with external contractors).
  • Ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Managing and supporting contracts with service providers and suppliers, ensuring effective site operations for both tenants and visitors.
