Electrics manufacturer Michael Smith Switchgear is the Chamber’s Leicestershire Business of the Year
A company that manufactures electrical switchgear for the construction industry and contractors has won the East Midlands Chamber Leicestershire Business of the Year Award 2018.
Michael Smith Switchgear manufactures low voltage switchgear panels, automatic changeover panels, power factor correction cubicles, UPS input/output panels, wall mounted panel boards, control panels, package substations and power distribution units.
Its markets cover the whole of the UK and its products are used in many different market sectors including hospitals, manufacturing plants, retail outlets and distribution warehouses.
Many of the items the company makes are integral parts of the electrical distribution networks of large buildings and ensure the safe distribution of the electrical supply around different parts of those complexes.
The Leicester-based company works either directly for end users or for electrical contractors, who manage the projects from start to finish.
Receiving the award from Mazars, the headline sponsor of the Chamber’s Business Awards 2018, Managing Director Sean Smith said: “It feels absolutely amazing to have won Business of the Year, I would like to thank everyone that put us forward for this prestigious category.”
Finance Director Emily Smith said: “It’s incredible to have been voted for the Business of the Year Award, it’s great to have won the award with such tough competition in with the manufacturing industry in Leicestershire.”
The company was one of 12 to win an award on the night, as the Chamber celebrated the strength and successes of businesses across Leicester and Leicestershire.
To qualify as a contender for the supreme accolade of Business of the Year, Michael Smith Switchgear had already won the Manufacturer of the Year Award.
Chamber President Rob Mayo said: “One of the primary objectives for my Presidential year has been to celebrate the successes of our members and to encourage them to take advantage of the many opportunities for growth, both here in the UK and around the world.
“Taking part in the Chamber’s Business Awards, the only local awards to offer winners the chance to go on to compete on a regional and national stage at the British Chambers of Commerce Awards, is just one way to be part of that celebration. We congratulate every winner tonight and every organisation that made it through the final shortlist.
“Winning awards is not a vainglorious pursuit. Taking part in the competition encourages an organisation to look closely at what they do best. Making it through to the final is cause for celebration in itself and whether you get that far or walk off with the ultimate crown, you should shout about that success and proclaim to the world that yours is one of the best businesses out there.”
