Leicestershire businesses can benefit from free advice to trade in Europe
The Leicestershire Business Gateway Growth Hub is running a webinar with LeicestershireLive on Wednesday 24, February 2021 between 11am - 12:15pm, explaining the new rules of importing and exporting goods between the UK and EU.
The Growth Hub has already helped a local fashion start-up selling 1960s vintage clothing across the continent and a wine merchant importing wine from Italy - and they have experts ready to help business across all sectors and of all sizes.
The virtual event, which will be held on Zoom, will be looking forward to how businesses can access opportunities from the new trading agreements which came into force in the new year as well as guiding them through any obstacles they may face.
The best practices for importation and exportation will be discussed, as well as effective supply chain management and how to develop an emergency plan of action for your business, should the worst occur and be required.
The Growth Hub managed more than 3,500 calls for help from businesses since the pandemic struck in 2020 with advice including how to access grants to keep companies afloat as well as directing some businesses to specialised third-party experts.
It is one of 38 Growth Hubs around the UK, and is run in partnership with Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council, East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) and the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership Limited (LLEP).
It has 14 experienced business advisers, who offer expert, independent advice to firms both new and old, including information about acceleration programmes and access to funding through business loans and grants.

The webinar will cover topics such as VAT issues, intellectual property, and the labelling/packaging of goods to be transported between the UK and EU now that the Brexit transition period is over.
It will include speakers Jon Egley, Growth Hub Manager, Andrea Collins, Managing Director at The Export Department, Ann Cook, International Trade Adviser at the Department for International Trade (DIT) and Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, Chairman and Founder, Morningside Pharmaceuticals, who will all offer their independent advice and guidance.
A question and answer session will take place towards the end of the webinar for participants to raise any key concerns, and participants can book in for a follow-up session with a business adviser if they have any more queries.
Growth Hub manager, Jon Egley, says:
"Businesses who need our help can leave an enquiry on our website, fill out a web form or dial the free EU helpline. We've got a dedicated team that will make sure all enquiries to the business hub are picked up.
"I'm very passionate about what we do as an organisation because I want as many businesses as possible to survive during this difficult period, so we want to be there for firms when they need us the most."
