Are you a part-qualified finance professional looking to take the next step in your accounting career? Do you enjoy turning data into insights, and supporting decision-makers with accurate, timely financial reporting? Do you have a high level of attention to detail? If so, you could become our next Finance team member.

As an Assistant Management Accountant, you’ll be proactive and detail-driven to contribute to the financial health of the Chamber. Supporting the Head of Finance, you’ll produce accurate monthly management accounts, prepare financial reports, and improve internal processes. With a strong focus on collaboration, you will collaborate with teams to deliver insightful analysis, good practice and support financial decision-making.

Overview

Key areas of responsibility

  • Financial reporting and compliance – Prepare monthly management accounts up to trial balance. Assist in the production of financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and year-end). Support audit preparation and liaise with external auditors. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and controls.
  • Budgeting and forecasting – Collaborate with departments to support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting. Conduct variance analysis and offer clear, data-driven commentary. Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic planning.
  • Financial operations and controls – Perform regular balance sheet reconciliations. Handle accruals, prepayments, and journal postings. Review and enhance financial processes for efficiency and compliance.
  • Systems and technology – Act as a superuser for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Provide training and system support to colleagues. Monitor data integrity and assist with system improvements.
  • Transactional finance and payroll – Oversee invoice and expense claim processing. Support monthly payroll processes in coordination with HR. Ensure accurate transactional data entry and compliance with policies.
  • Team support and development – Work closely with other finance team members to share knowledge and best practice. Mentor less experienced colleagues where required. Foster a collaborative and improvement-focused culture.

Overview

Applicants will possess

  • Sound technical accounting knowledge.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Skilled in producing management accounts and completing month-end tasks.
  • Experience in payroll support and transactional finance.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook and Teams.
  • Part-qualified and studying towards CIMA or ACCA.
  • Good standard of literacy and verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a systematic approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Appreciation of confidentiality and discretion in financial matters.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, motivated, and professional.
  • Takes initiative and contributes to improvements.
  • Diplomatic and tactful with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Flexible approach to working hours.

If you’re successful at this stage, you will be invited for an interview. If you’re unsuccessful, the Chamber’s HR team will let you know by email.

First, you’ll be invited to interview virtually via Microsoft Teams or in-person at our Chesterfield office. If your interview goes well, you may be invited to attend a second interview or offered the role. Some interviews might require you to compile some research or to prepare a presentation. At the end of the interview, the interviewer will confirm the timeline for next steps.

Interviews usually last around an hour with a mix of competency based interview questions, and in some cases, we might ask you to carry out some practical exercises.

Decisions will be made at each stage of the process, as we score applicants against the role criteria. If you’re successful, we will contact you to make an offer. This will be followed up in writing and a contract will be sent to you once a start date is confirmed. You will receive information on your induction and what you will do on your first day.
