Overview

Agenda for the day includes:

- Employment law update: What to look out for in 2026 and beyond

- Employment Rights Act 2025 (ERA 2025): An overview of what’s already in force, what’s coming later in 2026 and the ERA 2025 changes in 2027, including:

● Sexual harassment: Focussing on the ‘all’ reasonable steps implementation and how businesses can prepare
● Unfair dismissal: A discussion on time limits, the removal of the statutory cap for compensation and the reduction in the qualifying period of employment from two years to six months.

The BRM Employment Law team will provide guidance on what businesses should do now to prepare for the incoming changes in the ERA 2025. They’ll also advise on how using probationary periods and effective performance management can help dealing with some of the changes.

- Recruitment & Retention in a Changing Local Market: What’s Really Happening - and What Employers Can Do About It - Izabella Edwards, Managing Director of Edwards Employment Solutions

In this session, Izabella Edwards will provide a straight-talking overview of the local recruitment landscape, drawing on real-time insight from employers and candidates across Chesterfield, South Yorkshire and the wider East Midlands.
Covering both recruitment and retention, this session will explore:

● What the current talent market actually looks like locally (not the headlines)

● Why attraction has become harder - even when unemployment exists

● The real reasons employees are leaving roles (and where businesses often get it wrong)

● Practical, low-cost retention strategies that SMEs can implement immediately

● How recruitment and retention need to work together - not as separate conversations

This will be a practical, no-nonsense session designed to help HR leaders and business owners make better hiring decisions, reduce churn, and build more resilient teams in today’s market.
